Solace during Covid

I find solace in the seeds I plant

In the flowers I water and the garden tiles I grow

I find solace in the cardinals that sing

In the wind that gives me chills and the sunshine that I embrace

I find solace in natural silence

The sound the trees make as their branches sway

The buzzing of the bees

I find solace in a good cup of coffee

Iced or hot

I find solace in clothes that make me happy

In jewelry that hangs from my neck and ears

I find solace in breakfast I consume past noon

I sometimes find solace in solitude

Other times I’m as lonely as I can be

I find solace in kind words, kind actions

I wish kindness spread faster than Covid

I wish ignorance became extinct

I wish cruel selfish people were endangered

But in actuality they’re an invasive species

I find solace in telling myself that tomorrow will be kinder
